Bluegrass Music is a Blast!

The first country music concert I saw in Nashville, Tennessee was a bluegrass show. Bluegrass is a type of country music. I noticed most bluegrass bands have 3 to 5 people in them. They usually play stringed instruments. You may find band members playing guitars, banjos, mandolins, a bass or fiddles. A fiddle is another name for a violin. If you would like to learn more about bluegrass and the instruments used in bluegrass music, you can ask mom or dad to download the Barnyard Bluegrass app to their iPhone, your iPad or an iPod Touch. Parents, click the icon below to go to iTunes.

I played the violin when I was younger.  I began playing when I was 7 years old and I played until the end of 8th grade.  Listening to the fiddlers in the bluegrass bands was exciting for me.  I decided that I will dust off my violin to begin practicing again this summer.  What is something you are trying to do more of this summer?  Write me a letter or postcard to let me know!

If you would like to learn more about bluegrass music, the library has some books and CDs you may like.  Here are a few I have found at the Somerset County Libraries:
